First: Make sure you have an Arduino (Nano) with an actual FTDI Chip. If you have an CH340 Chip, this Tutorial will give you headaches! (thanks to pablo braacciale and MITEEman)
You will need these Driver straight from the FTDI Website:

Some people reported problems with the DRiver resulting in a “Start Code 10 Error” on Win7 and Win8. I have no idea why that happens but Latif Berisha posted a link to another driver source in the comments (+1 him for that). For your convenience, this is his comment:

Did not work for my USB-UART adapter with FTDI FT232RL chip. I downloaded the 2.12.00 drivers directly from ftdi. When selecting the first inf file and then "USB Serial Converter" and then accepting the warning – I got BSOD! Using Windows 10 64-bit.

Hi Guys, I have this win10 and OSX el capitan problem now. both computers wont recognize the unit.. its not appearing in device manager at all. I tried every driver there is (i think) and different arduino ide versions… i really dont get it. Could somebody please save my sucky life! Crying… eating… crying… eating…
my FTDI232 cant supply 5v power to flash micro minimosd … i tried to use external power with esc and the led was blinking … upload the MWOSD showed a notif said "programmer is not responding … the FTDI led is on but the sketch wasnt uploaded … what can I do
Well i have a very weird problem..I have downloaded the drivers before some months started uploading and everything fine.. and some weeks ago rx stoped blinking green when using MultiwiiConf and cant read data.. Tried your way still the same
